Stu Czapski Retiring June 30 After Five Years of Dedicated Service to Cumberland

CUMBERLAND, MD — The Cumberland Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) announces the retirement on June 30 of Economic Development Specialist Stuart "Stu" Czapski, who has served the organization for five years. Czapski came to the CEDC as one of the most well-connected business advocates in Allegany County, and he leaves having made that connection count in measurable ways for Cumberland's business community and downtown core.

Czapski brought to the CEDC more than 25 years of experience in financial services, including branch management, cash management, investment counseling, and business banking. He also served as the Executive Director of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce for 10 years prior to joining the CEDC where he was deeply embedded in the civic fabric of the region — serving on the Western Maryland Workforce Development Board, the Allegany County Solid Waste Management Board, the Allegany County Health Planning Coalition, the Canal Place Preservation & Development Authority, and more.

At the CEDC, Czapski played a central role in the organization's Business Retention and Expansion program, working closely with local business owners to identify needs, navigate resources, and stay connected to the economic development process. He was instrumental in the Baltimore Street Redevelopment Project, one of the most significant downtown investments in Cumberland's recent history, which brought in new businesses, matched grants for building improvements, and helped turn around a stretch of downtown that had long struggled with vacancies.

His day-to-day presence with the business community, with property owners to co-leading community tours of key redevelopment sites, made him a trusted and familiar face throughout Cumberland's economic recovery.

"Stu Czapski is Cumberland through and through. His relationships with business owners, his understanding of our local economy, and his genuine investment in this community are things you simply can't manufacture. For five years, he showed up, did the work, and made a real difference for the people we serve. We wish him the very best in this next chapter, and we're grateful for everything he's contributed to this organization and to Cumberland." — Matt Miller, Executive Director, Cumberland Economic Development Corporation

As Czapski steps into retirement, the CEDC expresses deep appreciation for his service, his institutional knowledge, and the relationships he has built on behalf of Cumberland's business community. His work has contributed to a stronger economic foundation, and his impact will continue to be felt as the city moves forward.
